Mosquitoes are out!

Mosquitoes are already starting to invade our region. That's why experts are warning you to get prepared now.

Virginia Tech Extension Agent Phil Blevins tells us if you own horses, now is a good time to talk to your vet about getting vaccinated for mosquito-borne diseases, such as West Nile Virus.

Blevins also says whether on your farm or at your home, it's easier to keep mosquitoes away than it is to get rid of them.

“Keep water from standing in their gutters,” Blevins says. “Don’t leave any kind of containers sitting around that will hold water where it will stagnate, such as tires, lids and buckets. ”
